Featured Artist – Janet Ternoff

Janet Ternoff is a self-taught artist who lives and works in New York.

For some odd reason empty street scenes appeal to me. A lot of Ternoff’s work is comprised of these such scenes. Some of her paintings are highly detailed and others are fairly simplistic, yet just as effective. Some of her work reminds me of George Shaw’s mundane, yet visually inviting, Humbrol painted scenes. Of course its a different landscape (and as far as I’m aware she paints in oils on linen) but the same principles are at work. Other scenes of hers are strangely surreal, such as Uninsured Luggage, below.
